What's Going On This Week?

10 5

October has arrived and winter is rapidly approaching. Things may be slowing down around town, but there are plenty of amazing events to keep you busy. On Saturday, head to the Sheridan Opera house to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day! There will be representatives from Ute tribes, Native American Rights Fund and more. Also on Saturday, the Met Opera presents Norma, a production that sets the action deep in a Druid forest where nature and ancient ritual rule. On Sunday, The San Juan Symphony comes to Telluride. The Symphony, under the baton of Thomas Heuser, opens its 2017-2018 AMERICAN VISIONS season celebrating composer David Lingle’s impact on our local choral community. On Thursday, the 7th annual BRAvo community fundraiser and auction will be taking place, an event you won’t want to miss! Gentlemen from Telluride’s fire and police departments and service clubs will model the community’s bra creations in a live auction to benefit the San Miguel Recourse Center and the breast cancer support group, Bosom Buddies of Montrose. Check out more on each event below!

Indigenous Peoples Day: San Miguel County and the Towns of Mountain Village and Telluride present Indigenous Peoples Day on Oct. 8. The Sheridan Opera House portion of the event begins at 7 p.m. with representatives from Ute tribes, Native American Rights Fund, Colorado Commission on Indian Affairs and more. This event is free and open to the public.

San Juan Symphony: he San Juan Symphony comes to Telluride! October 8th at 3:00pm Conductor’s Pre-Concert Talk 2:00-2:30PM Tickets may be purchased online or at the door: adult $30, student $15 www.telluridepalm.com The San Juan Symphony, under the baton of Thomas Heuser, opens its 2017-2018 AMERICAN VISIONS season celebrating composer David Lingle’s impact on our local choral community- we proudly present Requiem for Eagles as part of a continuing collaboration between Durango Choral Society and Telluride Choral Society. The soaring harmonies and gentle themes of the prize-winning Lingle/Stevens Mass are paired with other reverential offerings, including Beethoven’s beloved “Pastoral” Symphony and Felix Mendelssohn’s firsthand rendering of Fingal’s Cave in the Scottish Hebrides Islands.

Met Opera: Norma: This new production of Bellini’s masterpiece stars Sondra Radvanovsky as the Druid priestess and Joyce DiDonato as her rival, Adalgisa—a casting coup for bel canto fans. Tenor Joseph Calleja is Pollione, Norma’s unfaithful lover, and Carlo Rizzi conducts. Sir David McVicar’s evocative production sets the action deep in a Druid forest where nature and ancient ritual rule.

BRAvo Fundraiser & Auction: The Ah Haa School started the BRAvo Auction & Fundraiser as an entertaining way for the community to come together to shed some light on serious and often painful issues. Each year the BRAvo Annual Bra Invitational Auction & Fundraiser raises money to support the San Miguel Resource Center, a local nonprofit organization whose sole purpose is to eliminate domestic violence and sexual assault in our community, and Bosom Buddies, a breast cancer support group for southwestern Colorado. Proceeds benefit the San Miguel Resource Center & Bosom Buddies, a breast cancer support group of southwestern Colorado.
