That's a Wrap! Ski Season Ends this Weekend
Ski season comes to a close this Sunday, and what a season it has been! The season started off strong with early season snow, setting the mountain up for incredible skiing conditions on Thanksgiving opening day. Santa delivered an early Christmas present and gave us a lot of powder over the holidays. Our dreams of a white Christmas came true. The snow continued into January, making one of the snowiest January’s on record. After warm, spring-like days in February and early March with little snow, we thought spring had arrived early. BUT that all changed last week when a storm hit on March 22, dropping 22” in 36 hours. It has been snowing consistently since then, so we are ending the ski season with a bang!
Closing weekend is marked by some fun Telluride traditions. Head out to the Street Dance on Main Street from 3:30 to 5:30 on Friday, April 1. Pink flamingo costumes will be on full display while guests and locals dance in the street and reminisce about what a great ski season it has been.
On Sunday, the Pond Skim at Gorrono Ranch draws lots of spectators cheering for those who are brave enough to test the waters. The laughs are as plentiful as the wipeouts. No closing day is complete without a costume and many locals bust out vintage ski attire, crazy wigs, and even chicken suits.
Happy turns this weekend. We are already looking forward to next ski season!
