Telluride New Year's Eve

Nye Shot

2015 has been a pretty stellar year for Telluride.  We’ve skied our tails off, we’ve shaken many legs to fabulous music in town park, and we’ve had our beginning taste of El Nino.  We’re totally stoked to hail 2016 with smiling faces and good times!  If you’re a local or you’re searching for an impromptu New Year’s getaway, look no further than a NYE shindig in our little San Juan Mountain box canyon.  Here’s our top recommendations for the occasion:

1.    Torchlight Parade, Fireworks, and Holiday Magic in Mountain Village for the whole family

This is likely the most family-friendly path you could take.  Ski school instructors snake their way down the mountain illuminated with flares in hands whilst our beloved Telluride Firefighters detonate everyone’s favorite celebratory explosives for quite the show.  To follow up, make your way over to the Madeline Hotel for the Holiday Magic light show display.

2.    Take it on down to the Big Easy with Preservation Hall Jazz Band at the Sheridan Opera House

The Sheridan Opera House knows how to throw a party, and NYE is definitely no exception.  This lively and iconic group will be sure to put plenty of pep in your steps, sending your mind straight down the Mississippi River to the Big Easy. If that isn’t enough incentive, there will be a champagne toast!

3.    An elegant soiree at the Ah Haa’s New Year’s Eve Gala

Every year, the Ah Haa School for the Arts transforms the Daniel Tucker Gallery into a formal dining room surrounded by fine art, cocktails, and gourmet cuisine that will be sure to satisfy the bon vivant in us all.

4.    Shake your funky legs with Keller Williams and ‘More Than a Little’ at Club Red

For all of you looking to get extra funky, this multi-tasking mastermind will be playing a special show he’s entitled “ToFunkURide”.  Keller and his unique genre-hurdling style will have you grooving right on into 2016. The Gondola will stay open until 2am!

5.    Party on! Downtown

All of the bars in town will be revved up with music and libations.  Local reggae band ‘Niceness’ will be at the Sheridan Bar, SpaceGunner will be up to their wicked ways with a special “galactic rock-and-roll” show at the Fly Me to the Moon Saloon, and DJ Dr. Seano will be spinning sick beats into the wee hours at The Last Dollar Saloon.

6.    Honga’s is back and they’re having a big to-do!

It’s great having Honga’s open with a fresh new look, and they are hosting a fabulous NYE celebration fit with apps, a specialty cocktail, house wine and beer, and a champagne toast to boot.  Reserve your spot at www.hongas.com

7.    Gather at the Courthouse on Main Street for the Countdown Celebration

No matter where you are in Telluride or Mountain Village, be sure to boogie over to the Courthouse for the annual Countdown Celebration.  Round up your people and enjoy the fun countdown, followed by a display of fireworks brought to you by Telluride Firefighters to bid farewell to 2015 and welcome 2016.

8.    Drink and DON'T Drive - Telluride style.

A night of enjoying libations, icy roads, and Telluride's Marshall Department is never a promising mixture.  The friendly folks at the Gondola are staying open until 2am to move you between Mountain Village and Telluride. Call Dial-A-Ride (970.728.8888) for transportation within the Mountain Village.  Mountain Limo will be offering taxi services on NYE - make a reservation or a call for pickup at 970.728.9606.
