The Hills are Alive with the Sound of (Jazz) Music

WEEKEND

Summer weekends  are busy in Telluride. It is often difficult to take advantage of all Telluride has to offer so the endless list  of outdoor activiites must be whittled down-take a hike, hit the bike, play a round of golf, go stand up paddle boarding, or climb the Via Ferrata before you head to Town Park to enjoy the festival du jour. This weekend, fortunately, you don't have to choose. You can enjoy a hike on the Jud Wiebe or Bear Creek and take in some amazing music echoing off the mountains during the 38th Annual Telluride Jazz Festival, August 1-3.

The intimate festival, enabled by limited ticket sales, offers a unique chance for music enthusiasts to experience one of the best outdoor music venues in the country, Telluride Town Park. Grammy award winning  Jazz percussionist Pancho Sanchez & His Latin Jazz Band  will take the stage as guest of honor along with a variety of internationally acclaimed artists in Jazz, Funk Soul, Latin, World Beat and Brass Bands.  Click here for the full line-up.

At night the music moves from Town Park to historic indoor music venues  where special Jazz After Dark late night performances  present memorable collaborations and up-close viewing of the artists. On Sunday, homage is paid to the influence of the Big Easy via a New Orleans Day party that kicks off with a second line brass band parade down Main Street. Colorful floats, costumes, beads and decorations all welcome as patrons join in on the march through town. Once inside the festival grounds, themed cuisine and beverages from local restauranteurs liven up the celebration as some of the best musicians in New Orleans give Telluride Jazz Festival attendees a taste of their town.

Are you ready to get your jazz on?
