Get into the Spirit: Holiday Prelude in Telluride
It’s the most wonderful time of year in Telluride. Main Street is decked out in holiday fineries. Street lamps are wrapped with garland and white lights; historic buildings are lit up brightly in a cascade of cheerful colors, and white lights create a bright canopy above Main Street.
The Holiday Prelude, Dec. 3–14, is a great way to get into the holiday spirit. It features a line-up of festive events for the whole family. No holiday celebration is complete without a grand tree and Telluride carries this tradition on in true “Telluride style” with a Christmas tree made of recycled skis. The tree lighting on Saturday night, Dec. 6 kicks off the festivities followed by a ski burning, honoring the Norse god Ullr, Patron Saint of Skiers.
The two weeks includes a variety of events sure to spread some holiday cheer including cookie decorating, card making, sitting with Santa, train rides for kids and new this year, a Ride to the North Pole on the Gondola Express. The Mountain Village is offering a variety of free events the weekend of Dec. 12-14. Check out the complete event schedule.
