Skiing is awesome but in most cases getting to the slopes requires a bit of effort.  Pack the gear, load the car, find a place to park, schlep gear to the slopes, bribe kids with candy to prevent melt downs en route to lifts...you get the (not so pretty) picture. However, Telluride is the exception where a ski trip is as easy as it gets. Here’s why:

No Need for a Car Once You Arrive

fiery town

Take a shuttle from the Telluride/Montrose Airport as once you arrive there is no need for a car.  In a town that is 8 blocks long, everything is walking distance. If your legs are tuckered out from a long day on the slopes,  hop on the Galloping Goose, a free shuttle that loops through town every 10 minutes. Traveling between Telluride and Mountain Village? Ride the free gondola which connects the two towns and runs daily from 6:30 a.m. to midnight.

No Lift Lines and Open Slopes

Telluride is a destination resort, 6 hours away from a major metropolitan area which means guest are rewarded with uncrowded slopes and no lift lines. It is highly possible that you will not encounter another person on a run.  Don’t worry, you wont be lonely…the mountains keep you company.

Best Moderate Terrain in Ski Country

Despite Telluride’s reputation for being very challenging and steep (which is true on the east side), the ski area has some of the most exceptional beginner and intermediate terrain in ski country. Beginner and intermediate skiers are not relegated to the bunny slopes at the bottom of the mountain; they can access the 4th highest lift on the mountain, enjoy jaw dropping views of the Wilson Range, then enjoy the Galloping Goose, a long green run all the way back to Mountain Village.

Majority of Accommodations are Ski-in/Ski-out

The majority of accommodations in town and Mountain Village are ski in ski out and offer a ski valet service so no need to schlep gear to your room.  If accommodations are a few blocks from the lift, simply hop on the Galloping Goose bus.

Easy Air Access

Telluride offers 15 direct flights from 12 major U.S. cities to the Telluride/Montrose Airport, a scenic 65 miles away from Telluride. Connect through Denver on Great Lakes/United and land at the Telluride Airport, just 10 minutes from town. Check out the complete flight schedule.
