Up, Up, and Away in Telluride
This weekend the blue bird skies above our box canyon will be speckled with every color of the rainbow. A parade of hot air balloons will light up the sky during the Telluride Balloon Festival.
Now in is 31st year, pilots from Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah come to fly over the Telluride valley. If the weather cooperates and there is little wind, the balloons will take flight from Telluride Town Park early Saturday and Sunday morning. It is a spectacle not to be missed. A few lucky volunteers may even be rewarded with a free ride.
On Saturday evening, balloons are tethered to Main Street and illuminated for a spectacular display. The Balloon Glow (if there is no wind) starts around 8 p.m.
The spectacular mountain backdrop surrounding Telluride always makes people gaze upward. This weekend the mountains will have to share the stage with a parade of balloons.
